UNB, Dhaka :
Former Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Prof Emajuddin Ahmed on Friday observed that the country’s education budget should reach 5-6 percent of the GDP from the present 2.18 percent.
“There’s chaos everywhere in the country’s education sector for the shortage of sufficient budget and its proper utilisation as well,” he told a discussion on ‘Anarchy in Education: Future of Bangladesh’ arranged by Shikkha Odhikar Andolan at the Jatiya Press Club.
The educationist said it will not be possible to resolve the existing problems of the country’s education system until at least 5 percent of the GDP is spent for the sector.
He said, “Countries like Nepal and Bhutan spend more than Bangladesh for the education sector in terms of GDP.”
