ECNEC okays six projects with TK 2,744cr

The government has taken a fresh rural electrification project with Taka 1,228 crore to provide 25 lakh new connections to meet the growing demand.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) today approved the rural electrification project along with five other development projects with an outlay of Taka 2,744.89 crore.
The 32nd meeting of ECNEC in the current fiscal year was held at the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal, after the meeting, briefed the newsmen about its outcome. He said the government would provide Taka 1,154.80 crore from the national exchequer while the remaining Taka 1,590.09 crore would come as project assistance of the total cost of Taka 2,744.89 crore.
Kamal said the government has taken the rural electrification project to boost the economic development of the country through ensuring power connection.
He said the Prime Minister has directed the concerned to complete the implementation of the Emergency 2007 Cyclone Recovery and Restoration Project by 2017 without any delay.
Among the projects approved by the ECNEC are Emergency 2007 Cyclone Recovery and Restoration Project (Taka 750.50 crore) under Water Resource Ministry, Emergency 2007 Cyclone Recovery and Restoration Project (Taka 77.74 crore) under Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Teesta Barrage, 2nd phase (Taka 413.88 crore), Right Embankment Protection of Teesta River in Rangpur sadar and Gangachara upazilas (Taka 125.39 crore) and Establishment of BCS Economy Academy (Taka 149.42 crore).
Ministers and State Ministers attended the meeting while members of planning commission and secretaries concerned were present at the meeting.
