BCC election: EC resumes investigation on alleged irregularities

Election Commission (EC) has resumed completion of investigation on alleged irregularities in more 26 vote centers of BCC election held on July 30.
Khondokar Mizanur Rahman, Joint Secretary, Election Management and Convener of 4- member investigation committee, disclosing the facts told the journalists on Thursday.
Other three members of probe committee were Md. Farhad Hossain, deputy secretary, Shahid Abdus Salam, deputy secretary (training) and Md Shah Alam, senior assistant secretary of Election Commission Secretariat.
The investigation was instigated after postponement of voting at 16 vote centers and then on basis of allegations to the returning officer from different sides more 14 vote centers were also included investigation list.
This part of investigation was held from August 11-14.
Later more 26 vote centers also included in the suspected vote center list after allegations submitted directly before election commission.
Now 56 out of 123 vote centers of BCC included in the list of accused vote centers for alleged different kinds of irregularities in election.
The first phase of investigation was started on Aug 11 at regional election office, Barishal by hearing from presiding officer, assistant presiding, polling officers, polling agents, law enforcing agency officials and members and others involved in election process of those centers.
In that phase investigation of 30 vote centers including results withheld of 15 centers and another voting suspended one vote centre on Election Day, were ended on August 14 evening.
During those four days investigation of 30 vote centers we have taken statements from more than one thousand persons including officials, candidates , their polling agents, law enforcers and others related with election procedure, convener of the probe committee added .
But in the meantime more allegations with audio, video and others documents were submitted at EC headquarter by the candidates and others.
So EC decided to include more vote centers to investigation-list.
Then according to the direction of EC, then the probe team came Barishal on Thursday after Eid vacation to investigate more 26 vote centers.
After completing our investigation we shall submit report to EC for taking final decision about the fate of investigated vote centers, leader of the probe-team said.
Earlier it was decided that the team will submit their report within 15 days of completing investigation.
Mujibur Rahman, returning officer of BCC election said on basis of the probe report concerned authourity of EC will decide whether reelection of those centers would be held or official results would be published. I am sure reelection would be held in some of alleged vote centers.
