An office Assistant of the Regional Election Office and two others have been detained in Chattogram on the charge of their connection with issuance of the National Identification Cards (NIDs) to Rohingya refugees.
They are: Md Jainal Abedin, 35, Office Assistant of Double Mooring Election Office, one Bijoy Das, a diver by profession, and his sister Sima Das. All of them are residents of Patiya upazila, Deputy Director of Election Commissioner (NID) Iqbal Hossain confirmed.
“After getting information of recovering a missing official laptop belonging to the Election Commission, a team of police from Kotwali Police Station rushed to Chattogram Regional Election Office around 10:30pm and arrested the suspects, said Mohammad Mohsin, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station.
A three-member team of the Election Commission led by Iqbal Hossain has been conducting drives in various places of Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram as part of their crackdown on the issuance of fake NIDs to Rohingya refugees.
