More than 1.6 million Bangladeshis registered to get their electronic Taxpayers Identification Number (e-TIN) in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, National Board of Revenue Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman says.
“We have registered a total of 2.8 million e-TIN holders until 09:30pm on Monday,” he told a pre-budget discussion with economists on Tuesday.
The NBR had initially targeted to take the total number of e-TIN holders to 2.5 million during this fiscal.
But the turnout exceeded expectations.
“I hope the number of e-TIN holders will reach three million by the end of the current fiscal,” Nojibur said.
The NBR launched a portal in 2013 to help taxpayers obtain their TIN online. The portal is linked to the National Identity Card database to verify individual applicant.
