Inspector Sohel Rana of Bangladesh Police has been arrested from the Indo-Nepal bordering area on charges of entering India illegally.
The inspector was posted at Banani police station as the inspector (investigation) until Thursday.
He was arrested on Friday by the members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) from Changrabanda border in West Bengal’s Kochbihar district.
BSF North Bengal on their verified Twitter handle posted on Saturday that on specific information, alert troops of the 148 Battalion apprehended the inspector while he was trying to cross the international border ‘illegally’.He was arrested at a place in India near the Nepal border with foreign currencies, a Bangladesh passport and toiletries in a satchel, according to BSF.
When contacted, Md Asaduzzaman, Deputy Commissioner of Gulshan Division said he was yet to be confirmed about the detention of Sohel by the BSF.
However, Md Asaduzzaman said that Inspector Sohel went to his workplace on Thursday.
Sohel Rana, hailed from Gopalganj district, was named as the patron of controversial e-commerce platform E-orange, and his fourth wife Bithi Akter as the proprietor.
Earlier on August 17, consumers of E-orange have lodged a case against its owners with the Gulshan Police Station.
Fearing the owners of the company will flee the country, they sued the owners, while also continuing with their protests in front of the National Press Club in the capital.
As per the case statement, previous owner Sonia Mehjabin, her husband Masukur Rahman, Amanullah, Bithi Akhter, and Kawser have been accused of embezzling Tk1,100 crore.
