Duty-free fabrics in local mkt HC orders to take action against companies

The High Court on Tuesday asked the concerned authorities of the government to take action against the responsible persons after conducting a probe into the corruption allegations brought against different companies that are selling fabrics and other raw materials in the local market after importing them under bonded licenses.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed in this regard.
The court also issued a rule asking the concerned authorities of the government to explain in four weeks as to why the inaction of the respondents in taking action against the companies involved with illegal selling of fabrics and other raw materials imported duty-free under the bonded licenses in the local market should not be declared illegal.
It also wanted to know in the rule as to why the respondents should not be directed to conduct a probe into the allegations brought by the writ petitioner against different companies that are selling fabrics imported duty-free under the bonded warehouse facility in the local market.
Finance Secretary, chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Commissioner of Customs, Bangladesh Bank governor and other respondents have been asked to comply with the rule within four weeks.
The High Court also directed the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Commissioner of Customs, Customs Bond Commissioner and Bangladesh Bank to dispose of the corruption allegations filed by the writ petitioner within three months and to submit report to the court.
One Anwar Hossain of Chattagram filed the writ petition seeking remedy from the High Court over the issue.
Lawyer Manzill Murshid appeared in the court hearing on behalf of the writ petitioner, while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.
Manzill Murshid later said selling fabrics and other raw materials imported under the bonded facilities in the local market some businessmen are committing not only corruption but also thrown the local textile industries on a threat.
