A total of 1400 cold victims of Shaghata and Phulchhari upazilas of the district got blankets from Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Thursday.
A distribution function was held on the premises of Bharatkhali Bandar Girls’ High School of Shagahat uapzila in the afternoon in cooperation with local Ngo SKS Foundation and district administration.
Professor Maksud Kamal, president of DUTA, formally distributed the blankets among the cold hit poor people aged over 50 of Shagata and Muktinagar unions under Shaghata upazila, Gozaria and Phulchhari unions under Phulchhari upazila as the chief guest.
Speaking at a function Professor Maksud Kamal said the blankets were disbursed to the cold hit people as symbolic aid so that rich men and other social organizations could stand beside the victims with positive attitude to help mitigate their sufferings.
Like other beneficiaries, Anjuara Beoya, a senior citizen of Shaghata upazila, expressed her satisfaction over the activity and thanked the DUTA for disbursing warm clothes to them during this season.
Joint secretary of DUTA assistant professor Neelima Akter, members Prof. Nizamul Haque and Biman Chandra Barua, chief executive of SKS Foundation Rasel Ahmed Liton, and other officials including journalists of print and electronic media were present on the occasion.
