Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique on Sunday expressed profound shock at the death of veteran politician Suranjit Sengupta saying that the country had lost a shining star on political horizon in his passing away.
“Suranjit devoted himself to politics from his youth. He is a unique personality in the country’s history of politics,” he said in a condolence message.
The DU VC said Suranjit was not only an efficient parliamentarian, but also played a crucial role to formulate the Constitution of Bangladesh.
His remarkable contribution to the history of parliamentary politics will be recalled forever by the countrymen, Arefin said.
Veteran politician and Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta died in the city on Sunday at a private hospital at the age of 72.
