Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies of Dhaka University (DU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Associated British Foods (ABF), United Kingdom (UK) to increase capacities in mitigating disasters in Bangladesh on Monday at the Vice-Chancellor’s office of the university.
DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin and Director of Legal Services of ABF and Trustee Member of Primark Better Lives Foundation Paul Lister signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain, Pro-VC of Bangladesh Open University Prof Dr Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain, Director of Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies Prof Dr Mahbuba Nasreen, DU Registrar (In-Charge) Syed Rezaur Rahman, teachers and students of the institute and delegates from Primark Better Lives Foundation and ABF were, among others, present on the occasion.
The prime objective of this MoU is to strengthen teaching, learning and research facilities at the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies of the university which would increase the capacities of the institute in mitigating disasters in Bangladesh.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the ABF authorities for signing the MoU with the university. He hoped that through signing this agreement the existing symbiotic relationship between the organizations would be further strengthened.
Earlier, DU VC Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in presence of Trustee Member of Primark Better Lives Foundation and Director of Legal Services of Associated British Foods Paul Lister and other officials inaugurated the commencement of construction works of class rooms and auditorium at the roof of Arts Building for the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies of the university.
