DSEX slips below 4500 points level

The broader index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) slid below 4500 points level on Tuesday, extending the falling streak to the fourth consecutive session.
DSEX dipped continually to come further down by 14.52 points at 4489.45 at the close of the week’s third session despite significant rise in the daily transaction both in terms of value and volume.
The daily trade value rose by 14.02 percent to Taka 434.53 crore when the volume increased by nearly 8.0 percent to 11.30 crore shares against Monday’s 10.47 crore shares worth Taka 380.51 crore.
The blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES, however, closed up with marginal gains, driven by the higher activities around these scrip-groups.
“Market showed weakness in late hour due to profit taking, with investors cashing in on the recent strength of the market”, said Lanka Bangla Securities Limited (LBSL).
Out of the 318 issues traded, 162 securities closed lower as the session was dull. Price of 102 issues, however, increased moderately as some investors were active in scrip-focused buying in anticipation of near future profit-booking.
Cement sector became the major gainer after Lafarge Cement graduated to the A-category and captured 8.6 percent of the day’s total turnover and gained 2.4 percent at close. The other major gaining sectors were mutual fund and textile.
Among the top five advancing companies were Hakkani Pulp, Legacy Footwear, 7th ICB, Anwar Galvanizing and Anlima Yarn.
The day’s major lagging sectors included bank, fuel and power and telecom when the most losing five securities were Al-haj Textile, ICB1stNRB, Tosrifa Industries, RD Food and Northern Jute.
Lafarge Surma Cement topped the turnover list followed by Beximco Pharma, Beximco, GP, Family Tex and Square Pharma.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed lower the session, with the CSCX losing 56.01 points to 8420.49. Out of 235 issues traded, 138 incurred loss, 68 gained and 29 remained unchanged. Some 1.32 crore shares worth Taka 3.58 crore changed hands on the day.
