A man was killed in an alleged shootout with the members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the city’s Mirpur Beribadh area early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Asadul, 30, a resident of the BNP Bazar area, said RAB-2 Assistant Superintendent of Police Saiful Malik.
“A patrol team went to the Beribadh area after receiving information that a group of drug dealers were in the area. Sensing the presence of the elite force personnel, the drug dealers opened fire . RAB also fired back and injured one and the rest fled away,” the RAB official said.
The wounded man was taken to Suhrawardy Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, Saiful Malik said.
Two pistols and over 1,000 yaba tablets were recovered from the scene, he said.
He was accused in several cases of drug-related crimes and other criminal activities.
