Kamruzzaman Bablu :
The government will finalise the draft Hajj Act soon to ensure transparency in the hajj management.
“We are working on the draft Hajj Act. It will be finalised soon to ensure proper hajj management and get rid of anomalies in its procedures,” said State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Md. Abdullah.
He came up with the comment at a workshop on Hajj Management-2019 at the Dhaka Officers’ Club in Dhaka on Thursday.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs organized the workshop, presided over by its Secretary Anisur Rahman.
We are working relentlessly to ensure proper and smooth hajj management. The Saudi authorities have also expressed satisfaction over this year’s Hajj management. But, they want better management in future. The authorities concerned will have to work together to this endeavor,” said Sheikh Md. Abdullah.
The minister also stressed the need for cooperation from all concerned including the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, the Home Ministry and other agencies for successful management of hajj.
About Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB), he said there were many allegations against them earlier but the association is now doing well.
Members of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Religious Ministry Nojibul Bashar Maijvandari, Mahmudus Samad Chowdhury and Ratna Ahmed, were present at the workshop, among others.
Although the government claimed managing a successful Hajj this year, the leaders of Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh have identified several faults and allegations while speaking at the workshop.
They also suggested the government to take some measures immediately to arrange the Hajj smoothly in next year.
At the workshop, HAAB President Shahadat Hossain Taslim said that the local Hajj agents had to face serious domineering of the Saudi Arabian Airlines officials to get air tickets for their pilgrims.
“The Saudi Airline officials were dictatorial on selling their tickets. They haven’t followed any rules of the government or authorities concerned to sell air tickets. As a result, the Hajj agents had to face problems and ticketing agencies had to charge extra for tickets,” he claimed.
The HAAB leader also asked the authorities to take the responsibility of finding out the missing pilgrims.
While presenting the keynote paper, Religious Affairs Ministry’s Joint Secretary (Hajj) ABM Amin Ullah Nuri also admitted the allegation raised by the HAAB President.
“The government will address all the problems relating to hajj management,” said Anisur Rahman, Secretary for the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
He said that they are planning to increase the number of Hajj volunteers in future. Once the number is increased, the private pilgrims will also get the benefit.
“We are working to finalise the draft of ‘Hajj Act. Once the draft is finalised, it would be sent to the Cabinet and Parliament for approval,” he added.
