The great Victory Day was celebrated in different districts on Sunday in a befitting manner, with due respect and taking fresh vow to build a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh. The day’s programme heralded with 31 gun salutes at different upazilas .  
 Marking the day different political, socio-cultural, volunteer professional bodies, educational institutions, trade organisations, human rights, NGOs and other organisations chalked out the elaborate programmes. Our correspondents and agencies report:
Khulna ( South) Correspondent says: The 48th Victory Day was celebrated in Khulna city and at Nine upazila areas of the district on Sunday paying rich tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their valuable lives for freeing the country from the Pakistani Occupation forces in 1971 and also paying homage to the women who were brutally tortured, violated and killed during the Liberation War for freedom of the country.
Before 47 years, on December 16, 1971, Bangladesh was born as an independent country under the leadership of father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh mujibur Rahman, and for the supreme sacrifice of around three million people and the honor of nearly half a million of women.
Marking the day, different organizations including government, non-government, autonomous bodies, political parties, professional bodies and institutions arranged different programs.
The day was heralded by 31 gun salutes at 12.01 am on Sunday at Khulna police Lines ground.
Khulna District Administration and Khulna City Corporation (KCC) arranged different programs on the occasion of Victory Day.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Lokman Hossain Mia hoisted National Flag at Khulna Divisional Stadium ground and took salute from the parade.
A discussion meeting and reception to the freedom fighters were held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna Mohammad Helal Hossain.
National flags were hoisted atop all public and private buildings at dawn and people from all walks of life placed floral wreaths at Gallamari monument on the day. Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches and other religious institutions, seeking divine blessings , peace and progress for the country.
Improved diets were served at hospitals, orphanages and jail on the day.
Colorful victory rallies were brought out in the city which paraded the main streets.
Khulna University (KU). Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), Khulna Shishu Academy, Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union Of Journalist (KUJ), Swadhinata Sangbadik Forum, 1971: Genocide and Torture Archive Museum and different socio-cultural organizations including Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Daulatpur unit observed different programs marking the day.
Khulna Betar broadcast special programs and the local Newspapers brought out special supplements on the occasion.
Khulna city and district units of the ruling party (AL) paid tribute at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and placed floral wreath at the Gallamary Martyr Memorial.
A discussion meeting was held on life of Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin who was brutally tortured and killed by the then Pakistani Army Janta in collaboration with the Razakar, Al Badar Bahini ( Who were against the Liberation War) in 1971 beside the river Rupsha in Khulna city.
BNP and Jatiyo Party’s Khulna City and district units also arranged different programs marking the Victory Day.
Bagerhat Correspondent reports: The 48th Victory Day was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and its al the nine Upazilas through various programmes and huge enthusiasm and festivity on Sunday in order pay rich tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to free their motherland during the nine-month bloody war against the Pakistani occupation forces in 1971. The day’s programme heralded with 31 gun salutes at dawn. It was followed with the hoisting of national flag atop all public and private buildings.  
The scores of political, socio-cultural, volunteer professional bodies, educational institutions, trade organizations, human rights, NGOs and other organisations placed floral wreaths at Muktijoddha Shahee d Minar at Dashiani square. Tappan Kumar Biwas, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Bagerhat and Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super, Bagerhat placed floral wreaths on the Shahid Minar on be half of Bagerhat district administration and police administration respectively. Alhaj Dr. Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and President of Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Awami League placed the floral wreaths at Muktijoddha Shaid Minar on behalf of Bagerhat district Awami League. Bagerhat Press Club, Bagerhat Bar Association, Sachetan Nagarik Committee (SANAC), Bagerat of TIB (Transparency International Bangladesh), Muktijoddha Sangsad, Bagerhat Govt. P C College also placed floral wreaths on the Muktijoddha Shahid Minar on the occasion.
At 8.30 am a march-past along with physical displays by police, Ansar-VDP, Scouts, Girls’ Guide, BNCC, Rovers, children and students of the different educational institutions held at the local stadium. Tapan Kumar Biswas, D C of Bagerhat hoisted the national flag in the ceremony and took the salute of the march-past as the chief guest.
 It was followed by a discussion meeting and a reception function was held with Freedom Fighters and their families in honour of late Freedom Fighters in the local stadium, arranged by the district administration. The discussion meeting held in the same venue with Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat in the chair was addressed among others by Al-haj Dr. Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and President of the Parliamentary Permanent Committee of the Ministry of the Social Welfare affair, Al-haj Adv. Mir Shwkat Ali Badsha, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-2 and President of the Parliamentary Permanent Committee of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock affairs, Happy Boral, MP of Women Reserved Constituency, Freedom Fighter Shaikh Kamruzzaman Tuku, Zila Parishad Chairman, Bagerhat and General Secretary of Bagerhat district Awami League, and Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super, Bagerhat. The programme also included supply of rich food to the prisoners in the jail, patients in hospitals and orphans in the orphanages, fancy foot ball play, documentary film show on the War of Liberation, special prayers held in mosques, temples and churches seeking divine blessings for peace, integrity, prosperity and overall development of the country, illumination and cultural function .
Dupchanchia (Bogura) Correspondent says: The 48th Victory Day was celebrated showing deep homage to the martyrs under Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura on Sunday.
With assistance of low enforcers, upazila administration has chalked out different programmes to celebrate Victory Day. Besides, different socio-cultural and professional bodies and institutions, including Shilpakala Academy and University club, Dupchanchia Sammilito pre-cadet school and press club observe the day with elaborate programmes.
No sooner had rising the sun, the national flag was hoisted atop government, semi-government and private offices as well as offices of autonomous bodies across the upazila.
Important roads were decorated with miniature national flags and colourful festoons along with UNO’s resident and upazila administration office.
Marking the day, special prayers was also offered in mosques and other places of worship, seeking salvation of the souls of martyrs of the Liberation War and peace, progress and prosperity of the country.
Later s cultural function, at the UNO office premises, gives recreation among the audience from the evening to 9 pm. Besides, fireworks also displayed to boost recreation after the cultural function marking the day.
A reception was hosted to freedom fighters as well as family members of the martyrs at Dupchanchia upazila freedom fighter office of Bogura on Sunday noon
Good number freedom fighters, sufferings from different diseases including old age complications were given assistance at the arrangement of the Upazila Administration marking the Victory Day.
A discussion meeting was held at the function presided over by UNO SM Zakir Hossain while Member of Parliament Shefaly Hasan speaking as honorable guest.
Assistance commissioner (land) Jesmin Prodhan, Municipality mayor Bella Hossain, president of Bangladesh Awami-leage Aljah Miazanur Rahman Khan Selim, Secretary Alhaj Fazlul Haque and president of press club Golam Faruq spoke among others in the function.
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj reports: Kishoreganj District Administration, District Police, RAB, Pourashava, Awami League, Oikyafront, JASOD, Ganatantree Party, Gono-Forum, CPB, BASOD, BSD and many other organisations have chalked out celebrated the Vicotry Day here in a befiting manner.
The programme include a 31 gun salute, placing of wreaths at the movement and local monoment of the martyred, hosting of the national flags a top all public and private building, decorating town streets with National Flages and colourfull posters.
A march past along wih physical displays by Police, Anser-VDP, Fire Service, BNCC, Scouts, Children and students on the Syed Nazrul Islam Stadium.

Gouripur( Mymensingh) Correspondent says: The Victory Day was celebrated in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district amid huge enthusiasm and festivity on Sunday.
 The beginning of the Victory Day started in the early morning with a 31-gun salute. Farjana Karim ,UNO of Gouripur Upazila ;councilors of Gouripur Pourashava and other officials of the upazila administration and the police department placed floral wreaths on the monument Bijoy-71 at Bangabandhu Chattar of the upazila town.
People from all walks of life and activists of political, cultural and professional organisations, institutions and. clubs, such as Gouripur Pourashava, Gouripur Thana, Gouripur Press Club, Gouripur Sangbadik Oikkay Forum, Gouripur Reporters Club, Gouripur Govt. College, Gouripur Women College, Govt. Technical School and College, Gouripur R.K.Govt. High school, Gouripur Pilot Girls High School, Nurul Amin Khan High School, Chader Hat Agradut Niketon, Govt.Textile Vocational Institute also placed floral wreaths at the monument Bijoy-71 and paid homage to the war heroes.
In the morning , colourful rallies were brought out by different organizations which paraded through the main roads of the town and joined Gouripur playground. Upazila administration organized a colorful march-past at Gouripur Stadium with participation of police, ansar-VDP, scouts, girls guide, school, college and madrasa students and members of different clubs, and cultural organizations.

The ruling Bangladesh Awami League of Gouripur upazila unit chalked out an elaborate programme to observe the Victory Day. Besides, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jatiya Party, National Awami Party (NAP) and other political parties and their associate bodies of this upazila drew up various programmes to mark the Victory Day.
.Besides, The celebration of Victory Day continued till 11pm, different clubs, organizations organised cultural programmes to mark the Victory Day .
BSS from, Rangpur reports: The people celebrated the 48th Victory Day amid huge festivities in Rangpur division yesterday with a fresh vow to build a developed ‘Sonar Bangla’ and reach fruits of independence to every citizen.
Thousands of people rushed to the Shaheed Minars and monuments of the martyrs in the district and upazila headquarters and placed wreaths paying rich tributes to the martyred sons and daughters of the soil.
In Rangpur city, the divisional, district and police administrations, Rangpur City Corporation, Awami League (AL) and other political parties, freedom fighters, educational institutions and other organisations celebrated the day with different programmes.
The celebrations began with 31-gun salutes at Police Lines ground, placing wreaths at different monuments of martyred sons and daughters and hoisting of the national flag atop government, semi-government and private buildings with the sunrise.
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the War of Liberation by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in Pirganj municipal town in the morning.
In Rangpur city, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari, Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib,Police Super Mizanur Rahman and other high officials placed wreaths at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’, Mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Memorial of the martyred freedom fighters.
Freedom fighters, acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, City Mayor and Jatiya Party leader Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa and President of city BNP Mozaffar Hossain with other leaders of their parties placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar.
Later, leaders and activists of JASOD, CPB, BSD, Workers Party and other political parties, NGOs, business, socio-cultural, professional and human rights organisations, educational institutions and other organisations placed wreaths there.
The main buildings and government offices were illuminated, roads and road islands colourfully decorated with the national flag and coloured miniature flags.
Thousands of people participated in the Victory Day mini-marathon and ‘Bijoy’ rally that paraded the streets from Begum Rokeya University to Rangpur Zila School.
The Divisional Commissioner hoisted the national flag and took salute at march-past and displays by freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, fire service personnel, students, children, jail guards, scouts, rover scouts and girl guides at Rangpur stadium.
The District Information Office screened documentary films on the War of Liberation and Victory Day.
Freedom fighters and relatives of martyred freedom fighters were accorded receptions.
 Special prayers were offered at all mosques and places of religious worships seeking divine peace for departed souls of the martyred sons and daughters of the soil, progress and welfare of the nation and its people.

High officials, political leaders, freedom fighters, civil society members and elite addressed the discussion followed by prize distribution and cultural functions at night.
Similarly, the people of Kurigram, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts in Rangpur division celebrated the day amid huge festivities.

that they could properly lead the nation in future to build a developed Bangladesh.
“The young generations should know how their previous generations
struggled under leadership of Father of the Nation Banglabandha Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman to liberate the country,” said Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya
University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah.
Dr Kalimullah made these observations while speaking at the day-long programmes held on the campus in celebration of the 48th Victory Day.
Earlier, Kalimullah placed wreaths at altar of the Independence Memorial on the campus at the zero hours on the day.
The Vice-chancellor hoisted the national flag in front of the administrative building in the morning and led the ‘Bijoy Shobhayatra-2018’ that paraded the campus and adjoining areas with participation of teachers,
students, officials and employees of the university.

Kalimullah also placed wreaths at the Swadhinota Smritistambha ‘Arjan’
at Modern Mour and Independence Memorial on the university campus. The Vice-
chancellor also inaugurated a permanent stand for hoisting of the national
flag in front of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall on the campus.

the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr Abu Kalam Md Farid Ul

Sports competitions were also organised for teachers, students,

children on the War of Liberation and struggles for independence at central

BSS from Rajshahi reports: The great Victory Day was celebrated in the divisional city and the district yesterday with a renewed vow for building a happy, prosperous and non-communal Bangladesh with spirit of the Great War of Liberation.
Divisional and District Administrations, Rajshahi City Corporation, scores of political, socio-cultural, voluntary, professional bodies and trade organisations placed wreaths at different Shaheed minars including Bhuban Mohan Park, Rajshahi College, Talaimari, Rajshahi University, Police Line and Collectorate Building.
City and district units of Bangladesh Awami League celebrated the day through various programmes like victory rally, placing of wreaths, discussionmeeting and other cultural functions.
The programmes of the day heralded with 31 gun salute at dawn on the local Police Line Parade Ground.

Improved diets were served to inmates of hospitals, jails, shishu paribars, vagabond centres, orphanages and shelter homes.
Various educational institutions including Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi Medical University, Rajshahi Medical College, Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, Barind Multipurpose Development Authority, Bangladesh Silk Development Board and Rajshahi Education Board celebrated the Victory Day through separate programmes.
Marking the celebration, recreational and amusement parks and other visiting places remained open for the visitors throughout the day.

Victory Day celebrated with due respect in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Dec 17, 2018 (BSS) – The great Victory Day was celebrated in
the district on Sunday in a befitting manner, with due respect and taking
fresh vow to build a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.

Marking the day district administration, various cultural organizations,
political parties and educational institutions chalked out the elaborate
programmes.
The day’s programme began with placing wreaths by district
administration, police department, district Muktijodha Sangshad, district AL,
district BNP, Jatiya party and other political parties, district BMA,
educational institutions and socio-cultural organizations at the monument of
the Poura Park of the town in the morning.

The day was heralded with 31 gun salutes at the time of sun rising and
national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings just after
sun rise.

Later, an impressive march past by Ansar, VDP, BNCC, scouts, students of
Shishu Paribar, schools and colleges was held at Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium at
8.30 am.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sebastin Rema and superintendent of police (SP)
Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah took salute as the chief guest and special guest
respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Sebastin Rema recalled with profound
respect the greatest Bangalee for all time Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh.

Responding to the clarion call, people from all walks of life
participated in the War of Liberation and after nine months of bloody war the
nation achieved the ultimate victory of independence on this day in 1971
under the charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu, he also said.

Later, a reception was accorded by the district administration to the
freedom fighters and the members of martyred families on the ground of Shah
Abdul Hamid Stadium at 11.30 am.

The programmes also included children’s drawing and essay writing
competitions on Liberation War organized by Bangladesh Shishu Academy and
documentary film show arranged by District Information Office.

The other programmes included charity football match between district
administration eleven and Gaibandha Pourashabha, arrangement of sports and
games for the women by Mohila Krira Sangstha and holding of blood donation
camp by Shandhani Donor Club.

Apart from this, special prayers were offered in mosques and temples and
improved diets were also served in the hospitals, jail and orphanages.

In the evening, a discussion meeting on building Digital Bangladesh
organized by district administration was held at the auditorium of Zila
Shilpakala Academy (ZSA) of the town.

Later, a cultural function was also held on the occasion. The artistes
of different cultural organizations of the town rendered songs at the
function.
