A discussion on “1971 Genocide in Bangladesh as Reflected in Higher Education Curriculum” was held on Monday at the Senate Hall on National University (NU) campus in Gazipur. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Harun-or-Rashid presided over the meeting while writer and journalist Shahriar Kabir addressed it as the chief speaker, said a NU press release.
Pakistani researchers Anam Zakaria and Haroon Khalid also took part in the discussion.
Addressing the function, NU VC stressed on including the history of 1971 genocide in the textbooks to groom up the country’s young generation with real birth history of Bangladesh. A full course titled “History of the Emergence of Independent Bangladesh” has been made compulsory for all NU students, he said.
Later, a documentary on the genocide in 1971 was screened at the function. NU Pro-VC Dr Hafiz Md Hasan Babu, Treasurer Prof Noman Ur Rashid and a large number of teachers and officers of the university attended the discussion.
