A discussion meeting on ‘1971 Genocide in Bangladesh As Reflected in Higher Education Curriculum’ was held on Monday at National University (NU) Senate Hall with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Harun-or-Rashid in the chair.
Writer and journalist Shahriar Kabir and two Pakistani researchers, namely Anam Zakaria and Haroon Khalid took part in the discussion. In his address Dr Harun-or-Rashid maintained, ” Our 1971 War of Liberation with a special focus on the Pakistani Genocide be incorporated into al-level education curriculum and syllabi in order to keep our new generation abreast with the traumatic birth of Bangladesh.” Stressing it as a national duty, Dr Rashid informed that a full course titled `History of the Emergence of Independent Bangladesh’ has been made compulsory for all students under National University.
Shahriar Kabir held the view that Pakistan should have long before apologized for commiting crime against humanity by her army in 1971 upon the innocent Bangalis. The two Pakistani researchers express their deep sorrow for what Pakistani army had done unto the Bangalis in 1971.
A documentary on `1971 Genocide’ was presented at the function.
Pro vice-Chancellor Dr Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu, Treasurer Prof Noman Ur Rashid, a large number of teachers and officers attended the discussion while Registrar Mollah Mahfuz Al-Hossain conducted the meeting.
