Dhaka Bar Assoc polls begins today

The two-day election of Dhaka Bar Association for session 2018-2019 begins today.
A total of 16, 129 voters of the biggest Bar of Asia are expected to use their franchise in the two days’ election, while 55 candidates are vying for 27 positions of the Bar Association.
Election Commissioner Anisur Rahman told
newsmen that this year the total number of voters is 16,129. Of the candidates, 27 are contesting from the BNP-led Blue Panel, also known as Jatiytabadi Ainjibi Oikya Penal, while another 27 lawyers are vying on behalf of the ruling Awami League-led White Penal, known as Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad Samorthito Sammilito Ainjibi Samonnoy Parishad Penal.
Advocate Golam Mostafa Khan is contesting for the post of President from the Blue Penal, while his rival of the White Penal is Abdur Rahman Howlader. Kazi Shahanara Yeasmin is vying for the position of Senior Vice-President from the While Penal and Abdus Salam Dewan is her rival from the other penal. AR Mizanur Rahman is the candidate for post of Vice-President from the Blue Penal and Md Ruhul Amin is his rival from the other penal. Md Mizanur Rahman (Mamun) is contesting from the White Penal for the post of General Secretary, while Md Hossain Ali Khan (Hassan) is his rival from the Blue Penal.
Other candidates of Blue Penal are: Md Lutfar Rahman (Azad) Treasurer, Md Nihar Hossain Faruk Senior Assistant General Secretary, ABM Iftekharul Haque Library Secretary, Shahnaz Begum (Shireen) Cultural Secretary, Office Secretary Md Zulfiker Ali Haider (Jibon), Sports Secretary Mohammad Khalilur Rahman (Khalil) and MABM Khairul Islam (Liton) Social Welfare Secretary.
Eight other lawyers- Arifur Rahman Chowdhury (Sumon), Mostafizur Rahman Talukder (Dipu), Md Kamal Hossain Patwary, M Maniruzzaman (Manir), Taslima Akter (Rita), Abdur Rashid, Sadia Afrin (Shilpi) are vying for the posts of Treasurer, Senior Assistant General Secretary, Library Secretary, Cultural Secretary, Office Secretary, Sports Secretary and Social Welfare Secretary respectively.
Besides, 15 more lawyer candidates are contesting for 15 posts of Executive Committee Members from each penal.
