News Desk :
Destiny-2000 Limited’s managing director Rafiqul Amin held meetings through Zoom apps sitting inside the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) prison cell.
Investigation has found that he held zoom meetings from half an hour to one hour after midnight from four to five days.
It was confirmed by Md Towhidul Islam, head of the inquiry committee and Dhaka Division’s DIG (Prisons).
“We have submitted a report to the Department of
Prisons on completion of investigation on July 10 last. In the report, 19 recommendations were also made,” he said.
The DIG Prisons also said 14 prison guards were held responsible after examining videos during the investigation. One of them has gone on retirement. Measures against the rest 13 were proposed as allegations against them were proved. However, detained Rafiqul Amin took the advantage due to the negligence of the prison guards who were on-duty outside the prison cell.
Besides, four deputy jailors were cautioned in the inquiry report. “We have also proposed to take action against Rafiqul Amin for violating the prison rules,” he said.
Replying to another question, the official said no proof was found that he was given the scope of holding zoom meetings in exchange of money. However, when the prisoner concerned was asked, he himself confessed that he held meetings using internet on button mobiles though the mobiles could not be traced.
