Death anniv of Wazed Miah observed

The fifth death anniversary of eminent nuclear scientist Dr M Wazed Miah, son-in-law of Bangabandhu and husband of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was observed in the city and his birth place at Peerganj in Rangpur district in a befitting manner yesterday.
On this day in 2009, Dr M Wazed Miah breathed his last at the city’s Square Hospital. He was born at a respectable Muslim family at Fatehpur village of Peerganj upazila in Rangpur district on February 16 in 1942.
The programmes of the day included placing of wreaths at his grave, holding of discussions, milad and doa mahfils and offering of special prayers in all the places of worship seeking peace of his departed soul.
Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, family members and near and dear ones attended a milad and doa mahfil at her Sudha Sadan residence at Dhanmondi after Asr prayers marking the day.
Dhaka City Awami League organised a milad and doa mahfil at its Bangabandhu Avenue office after Asr prayers in observance of the day.
Awami League (AL) joint general secretary Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Dhaka City AL general secretary and Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram), AL organising secretary Ahmed Hossain, information and research affairs secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, state minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Dhaka City AL joint secretary and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad and office secretary Shahidul Islam Milon attended the milad and doa mahfil, among others.
