Bangladesh Bridge Authority signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Army to set up a composite military farm on the fallow land of the Padma Multiple Bridge Project.
Bangladesh Bridge Authority Director (admin) Md Rezaul Haider and Director of M and Q Directorate of Bangladesh Army Brig Gen Md Mamun Or Rashid signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides at Setu Bhaban in the city.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was present on the occasion, a ministry press release said.
Speaking on the occasion, Quader said after handing over about 2,158 acres of land to the Bangladesh Army, a military composite farm will be set up there as per the MoU.
Under the project, a dairy farm with about 7,000 animals will be set up, he said, adding that about 60,000 litres of milk will be produced daily from the dairy farm.
Once a cattle farm is set up there, the minister said, about 5.4 lakh kilogrammes of beef are expected to be produced from the cattle farm annually.
Quader said the military composite farm will create work opportunities for local people and contribute to the national production.
Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed, Bridge Division Senior Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam, Project Director of Padma Bridge Project Md Shafiqul Islam and Bangladesh Bridge Authority Chief Engineer Quazi Md Ferdous were, among others, also present.
