Police arrested three persons on Tuesday in connection with a gang-rape of a dancer at Sonargaon in Narayanganj district on Monday.
The accused were identified as Hasan Mahmud, Shafiqul Islam and Md Sajib. All of them are residents of Sonargaon.
The tragic story came to light only after police arrested them and produced in a Narayanganj court on Wednesday.
Earlier, the victim, a dancer, filed a case filed with the Sonargoan police station accusing five persons.
When contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonargaon Police Station Moniruzzaman said that the accused were produced in a court of Narayanganj on Wednesday where they confessed to their crime. The court later sent them to jail. Sub-inspector of Sonargaon Police Station Abul Kalam Azad said, a young man named Mahmud Hasan of Sonargaon hired the dancer from the Bandar upazila for performing an event. After her arrival in Sonargaon, Shafiqul Islam, Md. Sajib, Sanjid Mia and Siam Hossain forced the dancer to enter a garden of an abandoned factory where they raped the girl allegedly led by Mahmud Hasan.
Later, locals rescued the victim and admitted her to a local clinic. On information, husband and relatives of the victim reached the spot and took her to the Sonargoan Police Station and the victim filed a case on Monday night accusing the five. Later, police arrested three accused from different places. Efforts are on to arrest the remaining two, Police said.
