Chittagong Customs intelligence confiscated two Mercedez-Benz cars from a servicing center at city’s Muradpur area under Panchlish thana in the city.
Dr Moinul Khan, Director General of Customs intelligence said a UK made sedan cars were seized on Wednesday night from a car servicing center at city’s Muradpur area. The seizures were made after Bangladesh Road Transport Authority confirmed that the car’s documents were forged, said Moinul.
The sedan car brought by one Ashraful Alam in 2010 and the SUV car also brought by one Mohammad Mansur Ali in 2011 on condition of returning vehicles after certain period of time.
Duty has to be paid if they are not taken out of the country after the facility expires, Moinul Khan, added.
The two vehicles were brought to Bangladesh using the ‘Carnet de Passage’ facility that allows tourists to enter one country from another with their vehicles without paying duties.He said the estimated price of the cars, including the duty, would be around Tk 44.5 million.
