To mark the first anniversary of Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB), the University has recently organized an event at its Banani campus in the capital. The ceremony was inaugurated jointly by Dennis Dawson, Canadian Senator of Quebec as chief guest, and the special guest was Nathaniel Erskine-Smith MP, Member of Parliament for Toronto-Danforth, Canada.
The ceremony was also attended by Prof Emeritus Dr AK Azad Chowdhury, former UGC Chairman of Bangladesh and Advisor to the CUB BoT; Prof MA Arafat, Chief Advisor to the CUB BoT; Prof William H Derrenger, Vice Chancellor-CUB; Andrew Goodridge, Parliamentary Assistant of the House of Commons-Canada; Mahjabeen Khaled MP, Parliament Member-Bangladesh; Selina Ali, Chairperson of Unique Group and other distinguished personalities.
Prof MA Arafat, Chief Advisor to the CUB BoT delivered the welcome speech where he mentioned that CUB represents the bilateral relationship between Canada and Bangladesh. He also explained the significance of the CUB logo, which is a combination of the Canadian Maple leaf and the White Water lily of Bangladesh.
The guests praised the University for inspiring applied knowledge among students and following the Canadian curriculum in every faculty. They also encouraged the bright students of CUB to go to Canada for higher study and future career purposes. Chairman of CUB Board of Trustees Dr Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat made the concluding remarks on the occasion.
