CU students concern over security at shuttle train

The students of Chittagong University, especially those who board on the university-city bound shuttle train feared of facing any unexpected incident as the criminals in guise of students committing theft, snatching, dacoity etc in the shuttle train.
The offenses generally take place in the shuttle trains that move from city to campus and campus to city at night. Students said, the outer criminals in the guise of students, board on night-train and stole the student’s valuables including bags, mobile phone. After stealing, they just go down from the train when it runs slowly.
Side by side, the criminals generally boarded on the compartments where the appearance of the students is lower and if there is too little students the thief turns into dacoit and snatched all the valuables in the face of matched, ramda and knife.
On January 28, some four-five dacoits looted two mobile phones, a gold chain from two students, who was heading for campus from the city on the CU-bound shuttle train that left for campus from city’s Battali station around 8.30 pm.
The two students were Fahim Hasan, the university correspondent of the daily Alokito Bangladesh and a fourth-year student of Communication and Journalism department and the rest one is Ikbal Hossain, a master’s student of Sociology department.
Fahim Hasan said, the criminals in the absence of adequate security measures, committed their offensive activities in the shuttle train.
Earlier, another outer criminal Mohammad Babul on October 17, last year teased a female students at the shuttle train while the students handed him over to the police after capturing. He was sentenced to six-months by a mobile court.
Besides this, the students boarding on the day-shift shuttle train often lose their valuables as the criminals catch the bags while the shuttle train moves slowly. Abdulla Al Mamun, a masters student of Arabic department said, on October, last year, two outers capture my laptop-carrying bag while the shuttle train crossing the cantonment station. After the incident I lodged a general diary with the railway station but couldn’t find any remedy.
University sources said, only five police men are deployed for the security of the students while there is nine compartments with one is detached from another. Following the absence of the police personnel, the offenders committed crimes in the shuttle train, run at night.
CU proctor Ali Azgor Chowdhury said, we repeatedly asked the railway authority for extending the security of the students and they responded us that they will extend the security measures soon.
