Activists of Pragatishil Chhatra Jote’s Chittagong University (CU) unit staged a demonstration on the campus demanding immediate ease of the university’s transport crisis on Sunday afternoon.
They brought out a procession around 1:30pm from the university’s Zero Point area.
Speaking at a rally after the procession, demonstrators claimed the transport crisis of CU has been prevailing for years, and the administration takes no visible steps to find a solution despite casualty and students’ protest.
The number of compartments of CU-bound shuttle train has been decreasing gradually, further making the situation worse, they alleged.
Drishon Pradip Chakma, president of Chhatra Union’s CU unit, said, “The university takes Tk 579 from each student annually but the administration fails to provide enough compartments on shuttle train.”
“There are comfortable buses for teachers and staffers but nothing for students, expect for battered shuttle train,” claimed Mirza Fakhrul, convener of Chhatra Federation’s CU chapter.
Their other demands include introduction of double rail line from Sholoshohor station to the campus, bus service from university’s Gate 1 to Zero Point, and appointment of adequate staff at all stations.
