The Department of Environment (DoE)on Thursday yesterday fined a tannery Tk 10 lakh for polluting environment by discharging untreated toxic waste in Baizid area of the city.
Reef Leather was found running its operation without effluent treatment plant (ETP) in a drive led by DoE Chittagong (metropolitan) Director Azadur Rahman Mallick on August 1.
DoE served a notice to the tannery and asked to remain present at a hearing at DoE yesterday. Later, the tannery was fined, DoE officials said.
