A local Jubo League leader was hacked to death by rivals in Sandwip upazila here on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Bashir Ahmed, 39, general secretary of Moghdhara union unit of Jubo League in the upazila.
Locals said, Bashir Ahmed was a supporter of Jubo League leader Monir, who was killed last year. He was also the plaintiff of a case filed over the incident.
Jubo League leader Shahin Chairman, the prime accused in the Monir killing case, was released from Chittagong Central Jail on Wednesday afternoon on bail.
Soon after reaching the locality, Shahin called Bashir out of his house around 11pm. Later, he along with his associates chopped him indiscriminately, leaving Bashir dead on the spot. Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Sandwip Police Station, said Bashir might have been killed over internal conflict.
