Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chittagong Mezbah Uddin on Tuesday visited different kitchen markets in the port city to monitor prices of the essential commodities.
The DC visited different warehouses, wholesale and retail shops at city’s Reazuddin Bazar kitchen market at 11 am today and took stern action against four traders for realizing excessive prices and not maintaining retail price lists. He inquired about the prices of essential commodities and talked to the traders and consumers. He sought cooperation from all to keep the prices stable during the holy month of Ramadan. While visiting the wholesale and retail markets, the DC talked to the shop owners, vendors as well as buyers to have spot idea about the market trends and ensure that the traders were selling goods to the customers as per price list.
Mezbah Uddin said a total of five market monitoring teams, each led by a magistrate and consisting of representatives from government administration, trade bodies and law enforcing agencies visits 15 retail markets and two wholesale commodity business hubs of the port city every day.
The teams will continue to visit different markets during the Ramadan and take necessary steps against persons who are found involved in market manipulation, he added.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Ilias Hossain, executive Magistrate Habibul Hasan, representatives from District Administration, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions (BSTI), Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), respective market association, local ward commissioners and Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB), among others, accompanied the deputy commissioner.
