BSS, Dhaka :Chittagong Abahani reached semifinal of the KFC Independence Cup Football when they forded Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to play a 1-1 goal draw in the group A match held on Friday at Bangabandhu National Stadium. The draw saw Sheikh Jamal top the group with 13 points while Chittagong Abahani finished runners-up with seven points.In the day’s match, Nigerian forward Emeka Darlington put Sheikh Jamal ahead from a penalty in the 19th minute. Chittagong Abahani custodian Ashraful Islam Rana brought down Emeka Darlington in the danger zone and referee whistled for penalty. Darlington made no mistake to convert the spot kick (1-0).The post city team Chittagong Abahani came close to score in the 66th minute but Leonel Praux’s powerful shot from the vantage position was punched for safety by Jamal goalie Maksudur Rahman for a cost of corner.Nigerian defender Alison Uduka restored the parity Chittagong Abahani in the 77th as he headed the ball into the near post net capitalizing on a free kick provided by Moroccan midfielder Tarik El Janaby (1-1).
