Even after spending crores of Taka, the ‘Gossa Nibarani Park’ (Anger Management Park) at capital’s Osmany Udyan has become uncertain.
The city residents are being deprived of morning and afternoon walk in the capital’s Osmany Udyan for more than four years as construction work of the Park has been stopped.
Rather, unruly people are conducting unsocial activities including drug abusing inside the under-construction park as it has become an unclean and careless forest now.
Sources said the then Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon inaugurated the constraction work of the park on 27 January in 2018 on 29 acres of land in the Osmany Udyan in the capital.
The former DSCC Mayor Khokon told then that the ‘Gossa Nibarani Park would be completed in 10 months.
But after nearly five years, the development work of the park has been suspended as the contacting company The Builders Engineers Associations Ltd stopped the work without any notice.
The DSCC demanded that about 60 percent work of the park seems uncertain, while experts say nothing of the construction tasks is visible yet.
The budget of the park increased from Tk 58 crore to Tk 89 crore.
He said that the modern park will be enriched with various components like sound system where old day classical songs will be played, lakes, large screened Televisions, Games Zones including Billiard games, table tennis corner, children corner, sitting zone, Wifi, food corner, walkway, city museum, library and such others.
The DSCC said that if any city dweller comes to the park after being angry for any matter, will be fresh mentally.
The park will erase everyone’s mental tiredness and angers, the DSCC told.
But the city dwellers said that the sluggish development work which is totally suspended is creating anger among them.
“There is huge lack of refreshing place in the capital city. Many of the city residents used to walk through the Osmany Udyan in the morning and the afternoon regularly before the construction work started. But now the park has gone under unsocial people and drug addicts as it has been banned to walk for gentlemen,” said Arifur Rahman, a man from nearby Siddikbazar.
He said, the city corporation should complete the construction work quickly and open for the people soon.
In the spot visit it has been found that the tins of the fences of the under construction park has been cracked in different areas.
People used to go through those gaps for using the park as public toilet in day time.
“We have lost clients in our public toilet because most of the people are using the park as toilet through the places where are no tins are existing,” said Moyna, manager of nearby public toilet in the opposite side of the DSCC nogor bhaban.
Meanwhile, nearby street vendors also said that the drug addicts rule the park at night.
When contacted, Saleh Ahmed, Chief Engineer of DSCC told The New Nation, “We have issued notice several times to the construction company but they did not meet us. Now the DSCC has decided to assess the work and to fine the company for shunning work before completing it.”
The DSCC Chief Engineer said that the corporation will invite fresh tender for completing the work soon.
An official of DSCC Estate department said the Zone one is responsible to look after the development work of the park.
When contacted, Merina Nazneen, Zonal Executive Officer of Zone-1 of DSCC told The New Nation that they are waiting for a fresh tender of the park. Then they will get responsibility to supervise its work.
