A Dhaka court on Sunday granted fresh bail to cricketer Rubel Hossain in a rape case filed against him by actress Naznin Akhter Happy.
Woman and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 Judge Tanjina Ismail passed the order after a bail petition of the cricketer. Meanwhile, Happy’s lawyer filed a no confidence petition against the final report of the police, submitted on April 6 that sought Rubel’s exemption from the charge in the case.
The court fixed May 20 for the hearing on the no confidence petition. Both Rubel and Happy were present in the court.
Naznin Akhter Happy filed the case against Rubel on December 13, last year under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. On January 8, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka sent the national cricketer to the jail on his surrender, rejecting his bail plea in the case.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Rubel had been involved in physical relationship with the actress for eight months. It also said Rubel had promised to marry her and thus developed physical relationship with her. Later, Rubel allegedly backtracked while Happy filed the case alleging that Rubel raped her several times at his flat.
