Covid-19: Daily test positivity rate drops below 3pc again in Bangladesh

The daily test positivity rate for Covid-19 in Bangladesh has dropped below 3% again after going over the mark for a day.
The infection rate decreased to 2.68% in the 24 hours till Tuesday morning while it rose to 3.15% on Monday, after remaining below the mark for 10 days straight.
The daily test positivity in the country has been in single digits since December 19.
A total of 396 new infections were reported from 14,788 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
With the latest infections, the number of all confirmed cases jumped to 541,434, according to the daily virus update by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), released on Tuesday afternoon.
A total of 15,029 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours for testing at 212 authorized labs across the country.
The overall infection rate in the country stands at 13.97% from 3,877,042 tests that have been conducted, so far.
Meanwhile, the country registered 13 more deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the number of total fatalities to 8,298.
Of the deceased – 10 men and three women — nine were from Dhaka division, two from Chittagong, and one each from Barisal and Mymensingh divisions.
All the victims died at hospitals.
So far, 6,281 men (75.69%) and 2,017 women (24.31%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected in the country stands at 1.53%.
The DGHS said 751 people have recovered from Covid-19 over the last 24 hours.
So far, 488,621 patients – 90.25% of all infected – have made full recoveries across the country.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China’s Wuhan city in late December of 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus claimed 2,420,401 lives and infected 109,735,851 people across the world till Tuesday afternoon, according to Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics.
As many as 84,299,843 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 219 countries and territories across the planet.
