Police claimed to have busted a drug-trafficking gang, with the arrest of a couple from a Dhaka-bound bus in Chattogram on Friday night.
Some 1,000 pieces of Yaba tablets were seized from the possession of the couple — Yeahia Kabir Shoaib, 25, son of Abu Zafar Ansari, and his wife Nazma Alam, 22, originally from Cox’s Bazar district.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted the Dhaka-bound bus belonging to ‘Hanif Paribahan’ on the busy Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the Fakirhat area of
Mirsarai upazila on Friday night.
“A raid was conducted and we seized the drugs from the possession of the couple. They were taken into custody,” said sub-inspector at the Mirsarai Police Station, Rajib Poddar.
The couple had long been involved in the smuggling of drugs across Bangladesh, the officer said.
