UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said Bangladesh will be built in a way where all the children will get modern education along with the knowledge of modern technologies.
“We want to build Bangladesh in such a way where the children will get modern education and equipped with the knowledge of modern technologies,” she said.
The Prime Minister was addressing a function at her official residence Ganobhaban marking the distribution of prizes among the winners of drawing and essay writing competitions on Bangabandhu’s birthday.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust organised the competitions on the 92nd, 93rd, 94th and 95th birth days of the Father of the Nation.
Bangabandhu’s youngest daughter Sheikh Rehana, who is also the vice-chairman of the Trust, was present on the occasion.
Sheikh Hasina said, the aim of the present government is to ensure a beautiful, developed and peaceful environment for the country’s future generation. “Our desire is to make sure that those who are children now will get a beautiful, developed and peaceful environment in the future,” she said.
The Prime Minister mentioned that her government has been working tirelessly to develop the country. “Bangladesh is marching ahead and will march ahead.”
About the massacre on August 15, 1975, she said those who had opposed the Liberation War, collaborated with the Pakistan occupation forces and war criminals were behind the plot of the massacre. “They killed Father of the Nation along with his family members,” she said.
Hasina said, the Father of the Nation gave the nation independence and after the country’s liberation he engaged all his efforts to provide a hunger and poverty-free country where people will live a peaceful life enjoying all the basic rights.
“He [Bangabandhu] had taken massive development programmes towards that end, and the country’s people started enjoying the benefits of those programmes, but it was very much regretful the Father of the Nation was assassinated at that stage,” she said.
The Prime Minister said she herself and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana escaped the massacre as both of them were abroad.
“After returning home, we turned the Dhanmondi residence of the Father of the Nation into a museum and formed a memorial trust. From the trust, we are providing various types of assistance to the people of the country, including scholarships to students,” she said.
Hasina also mentioned that from the trust a hospital was established jointly with Social Welfare Ministry. “We’re not taking anything from that hospital. We’ve asked the hospital management to provide medicare facilities to the poor people.”
Chaired by President of the Bangabandhu Museum artist Hashem Khan, the function was addressed, among others, by Member Secretary of Bangabandhu Memorial Trust Sheikh Hafizur Rahman and its executive officer Mashura Hossain.
