Brother of a policeman has been arrested over the alleged robbery and rape of four women of a family in Chittagong’s Karnaphuli upazila.
The Police Bureau of Investigation or PBI arrested Abdul Hannan, 42, brother of police Sub-Inspector Abdul Mannan from Kotwali area onTuesday afternoon.PBI Inspector Santosh Kumar Chakma, who is investigating the case now, said they arrested Hannan following information given by the ‘mastermind’ of the incident, Abu Sama, who was arrested on Tuesday. Santosh said Hannan provided Sama with information about the house which was allegedly robbed on Dec 12.
Hannan was a candidate for a member’s post at Barha Uthhan union parishad under Patiya in the last polls.
His younger brother SI Mannan was recently transferred to Khagrhachharhi from Chittagong Metropolitan Police. Mannan’s family still stays in the Kotwali Police Station staff quarters.
During the reported robbery at the house of thee expatriate brothers, their wives and a sister were allegedly raped.Police dilly-dallied in recording the case, citing mistake in the address, when the family went to the local police station to start the case the following day. Police eventually recorded the case after State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury intervened.
Later, Bangladesh Police Headquarters tasked the PBI with investigating the case.The CMP admitted to their ‘partial negligence’ in the delay in registering the case.
