The 48th National Cooperative Day was observed in different districts in the country yesterday with a call to strengthen the cooperative movement in the society to lead the country towards desired development. Various government and non-government organisations took out programmes to observe the Day. Our correspondents and agencies report :
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj reports : Kishoreganj District Co-operative Office and others cooperative organisation jointly arranged a colourfull rally, discussion, distributing cheque and documentary film exhibition and cultural function marking the 48th Natinal Co-operative Day yesterday.
A discussion meeting on ‘Lets do productive co-operatives, build Bangladesh’ held at Local Co-operative Community Center in the town on Sunday morning.
Rezwan Ahammed Toufic MP attended as chief guest while Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury presided over .
Police Super Md. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) was attended as special guest.
It was addressed among others by ADC (Gen) Abdullah Al Masud, District Awami League President Advocate Kamaul Ahshan Shajahan, its General Secretary Adv M.A Afzol, District Co-operative Somity President Humayon Kabir, Acting District Co-operative Abdul Jalil, Women Leader Bilkis Begum and Krishik League General Secretary Anwar Hossain Bacchu.
Rezwan Ahammed Toufic M.P said that urged co-operative to strengthen co-operative sector by properly using countries limited resources.
S.P Mashrukur Rahman Khaled said, our resources are limited- the co-operations will have to productive themselves in productive activities.
BSS from Rangpur reports: Officials at a post-rally discussion yesterday said rural people have started reaping enormous benefits from cooperative activities to enhance productivity in every sector to cut poverty and achieve self-reliance.
They expressed the view at the discussion organised by District Cooperatives Office at Town Hall auditorium here in observance of the 48th
National Cooperative Day- 2019 with the theme of ‘Philosophy of Bangabandhu, Development in Cooperatives.’
Earlier, the District Cooperatives Office brought out a huge rally on the city streets with participation of officials and employees, leaders and activists of different cooperative organisations, students, youths, civil- society members and local elite.
Divisional Commissioner Km Tariqul Islam led the rally and addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Chairman of the Central Cooperatives Bank Limited, Rangpur Tushar Kanti Mandal in the chair.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan, Joint Registrar of Divisional Cooperatives Office Md Ameer Azam addressed the discussion as special guests.
District Cooperative Officer Jahangir Hossain delivered welcome speech narrating enormous successes already achieved by rural people through cooperative activities in developing human resources to increase productivity in last eleven years.
“As a result of strengthening cooperative activities, good governance has been established in cooperative organisations assisting rural people in achieving self-reliance through self-employments, cottage enterprises and industries,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner laid emphasis on increasing disbursement of cooperative loans among rural poor to enhance productivity for cutting poverty on way to achieve all targets and goals of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030.
Abdul Alim Mahmud called for providing skill enhancement training to unemployed rural youths through cooperative societies at the grassroots’ levels to assist them in enhancing skills to alleviate poverty through income generating activities.
The chief guest suggested for brining small and marginal farmers, entrepreneurs and backward sections under cooperative schemes to change their fortune for eliminating rural poverty from rural areas to build a developed Bangladesh by 2041.

Later, a discussion meeting was held at the auditorium of PLC with deputy commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin in the chair.
Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed the function as the chief guest and police super Towhidul Islam, general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, district unit, Abu Bakar Siddique, mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon were present at the event as the special guests.
The speakers put emphasis on building social movement through active participation of all the concerned for strengthening the cooperative activities in the country to attain the cherished goal of the cooperative department.
Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had recognized the cooperatives as one of the best weapons for the development.

The theme of this year is ‘Philosophy of Bangabandhu, Development in Cooperatives’. Marking the day, district cooperative office and Sadar upazila cooperative office jointly chalked out the elaborate programmes.
In the morning around 10 am, a rally was brought out from the premises of Zila Shilpakala Academy that ended at the Sadar upazila premises after parading the main roads of the district town. Later, a discussion was also held at the auditorium of Sadar upazila with district cooperative officer Gazi Mohammad Salauddin in the chair. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district Kazi Abu Tahar addressed the meeting as the chief guest.
The chief guest urged all people to be more active and sincere to make the cooperatives activities more active and time-befitting in order to turn Bangladesh into a prosperous nation.
The function was also addressed, among others, by additional police super Al Mamun Shikder and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahbur Rahman.
