Concerted efforts of all government, non-government and other authorities concerned has become indispensable to free the society from trading, trafficking and addiction of drugs, said speakers at a discussion here on Monday.
They viewed this is the high time of protecting the young generation from drug addiction as its extent is gradually mounting due to various reasons. So, there is no alternative to work with holistic approach.
The observation came in a daylong workshop on various curses of drugs trading and addiction held at Police Line here. More than 170 people who abandoned their drugs-trading recently joined the workshop.
In different occasions, they expressed their commitment of abstaining themselves from the anti-social activities forever and also took oath on the issue as they were given assurance of their rehabilitation.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) hosted the meeting in order to devise ways and means on how to rehabilitate them through generating alternative income sources.
RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam addressed the workshop as focal person with Deputy Commissioner (Headquarter) Tanveer Haider Chowdhury in the chair.
Deputy Commissioners Nahidul Islam, Amir Jafar and Abdullah Al Mamun, Deputy General Manager of Karmosangthan Bank Mazder Rahman, Deputy Director of Department of Social Service Nilufar Yeasmin and Youth Development Officer MNN Jahurul Islam also spoke.
Shafiqul Islam stressed on social responsibility to bring back the persons, the youths in particular, involved in trading, addiction and trafficking of drugs to normal life.
The communities side by side with the law-enforcing agencies and other government organizations concerned should come forward and work together to protect people from deadly consequences of the crimes, he added.
RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam urged officials of the line departments to extend their cooperation for proper and effective rehabilitation of the persons who left the drugs-trading amid anti-drug motivation.
Crimes-free society, particularity free from drug addiction, must be restored at any cost to protect people and the young generation in particular from consequences of deadly aggression of crimes.
To attain the cherished goal, the law enforcing agencies, media personnel and community people should have to work together to overcome the crises.
