The use of compost fertilizers are gaining popularity among farmers in the district as they are being benefited by using the fertilizer.
When contacted a number of cultivators, who are using compost fertilizers in their lands, said compost fertilizers can be produced easily due to easy availability of its raw materials.
Palu Matabbar, a farmer of Vatara village under Putail union of Sadar upazila said he cultivated Boro on 12-bigha of land last season only using compost fertilizers and got a remarkable output.
He also said that the fertilizer is comparatively cheap and can be produced at home using local technology. The fertilizer also increases the fertility of land without any harm. Other farmers in the area are also using the compost fertilizers in their land and getting good results, he added.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said many farmers are using compost fertilizer in their land and producing rice, jute, potato, mustard and vegetable.
DAE is motivating the farmers to use compost fertilizers on their farming land to enhance production, the sources added. It is also providing training to farmers on how to produce compost fertilizers.
