Commander of US Pacific Command Admiral Harris calls on PM

Visiting Commander of US Pacific Command Admiral Harry B. Harris (Junior) made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Prime Minister’s office at Armed Forces Division (AFD), Dhaka Cantonment here on Sunday.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said Admiral Harris discussed their counter terrorism activities in the region and offered training support to Bangladesh on the issue.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said supply of money and army must be stopped to contain terrorism. She said the terrorists have no boundary and religion.
Sharing of information is also very important to combat terrorism, she said.
Sheikh Hasina informed Admiral Harris of the government initiatives to make people aware about threats of terrorism through video conference with cross section of people.
The initiatives are yielding very positive results and people are helping law enforcing agencies to locate terrorists, she noted.
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh is a land of communal harmony where people of different religious faiths living in harmony.
Sheikh Hasina recalled the support of UN Navy following disastrous cyclone in Bangladesh in 1991.
Admiral Harris praised Bangladesh’s contribution to UN peacekeeping mission saying the whole world is surprised with their dedicated services. Bangladesh and US as well as their defense forces are enjoying very good relations, he said adding there is scope to strengthen their cooperation in this area.
