A college girl was stabbed allegedly by her ‘boyfriend’ at Kaliganj Bazar in Zakiganj upazila on Sunday following the refusal of his marriage proposal.
The victim was identified as Jhuma Begum Suma, 19, a student of Ichhamati Degree College and a resident
of Rasulpur village in the upazila.
Additional police super (media) of Sylhet Sugan Chakma said Bahar, a student of the same college and son of Abdul Gafur Prochon of Rasulpur village, had an affair with Suma for long.
Around 5pm on Sunday, Bahar intercepted Suma at Kaliganj Bazar on her way home from the college and proposed marriage.
As Suma refused the proposal, Bahar stabbed her indiscriminately, leaving her injured.
Hearing the victim’s screams, locals rescued the girl and took her to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. The alleged attacker, however, managed to flee the scene before locals reached the spot, said the police official.
