UNB, Dhaka :
US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan W Mozena on Friday said adequate cold storage facilities would help farmers keep their produce fresh and safe, eliminating use of formalin and other poisons.
“Bangladeshi farmers can use this (Cold Chain Network Facility) and other transportation and cold storage facilities to keep, what they produce, fresh and safe,” he said, adding that it is an important step in eliminating formalin and other poisons.
The US diplomat made the remarks while inaugurating the Cold Chain Network Facility arranged by Golden Harvest and USAID’s Cold Chain Bangladesh Alliance in the city.
He said now farmers in Bangladesh have the same option and they, too, can now transport and store their crops until the demand for them is higher and the prices are better.
“This refrigerated transportation and storage network is a win-win-win for everyone. The farmer is now able to maximize his profits; Golden Harvest provides a vital and profitable service to the community; and the consumer,” Mozena said.
He further said that the new system of refrigeration is a game-changer for agriculture and nutrition across Bangladesh. “Today, with this simple ceremony, we launch massive change and transformation of Bangladesh’s food supply.”
Chief of Party, Cold Chain Bangladesh Alliance, Dr AB Siddiqui, USAID Mission Director in Dhaka Janina Jaruzelski, Managing Director, Golden Harvest Rajeeb Samdani, and Chief Operating Officer, Golden Harvest Samad Choudhury were present.
