Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has urged the newly enrolled advocates to acquire professional skills instead of running after money.
“Don’t run after money. It is imperative to improve your professional skills and build yourself as an efficient lawyer. If you can make it, money will run after you,” he told the newly enrolled advocates of Bangladesh Bar Council at the certificate awarding ceremony at Dhaka Officers Club on Saturday.
Speaking as the chief guest, Justice Sinha said the lawyers should show restraint if they wanted to be good advocates.
“Sometimes you may see some people have amass huge wealth and own cars. But you should not think of money. If you can prepare yourself, money will come automatically. You cannot stop the flow of money then,” he said.
“If you start to run after money at the early stages, you will never be a good lawyer,” the Chief Justice noted.
He also asked the lawyers to analyze their learning and use their intellects to deal with legal matters.
A total of 2,720 lawyers, who were enrolled with the Bangladesh Bar Council on December 25, 2010, were given certificates.
The Chief Justice also administered their oath in the function.
Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Chairman of the Enroll Committee of Bangladesh Bar Council, presided over the programme.
Among others, Chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, Vice Chairman Khandker Mahbub Hossain, Member AJ Mohammad Ali and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon also spoke on the occasion.
