Staff Reporter :
City dwellers are yet to get respite from waterlogging though the authorities have already spent hundreds cores of taka to solve the capital’s waterlogging problem. The city roads frequently get flooded with sewage-filled water even after a short spell of rainfall. After the rain stops the waters takes hours to drain. This proves that the drainage system is not functioning properly for swift water drainage in the capital.
Negligence on the part of DWASA and City Corporations in removing rainwater in time when monsoon rain inundates the city streets is reason of sufferings.
The city fathers and DWASA always make fairy promises to free the streets of the capital of the waterlogging by making the drainage system effective, but the city dwellers still could not see any such tangible efforts.
When the streets are inundated, the sufferings of the city dwellers know no bounds as they face traffic congestion for hours. The sufferings are more due to various constructions work the major streets.
The city dwellers on Monday witnessed a moderate rainfall which flooded the major traffic arteries and intensified severe traffic gridlock for hours.
Sources said that the traffic movements come to a standstill in different streets including Mirpur Road to Kalyanpur via Sciecne Lab, Green Road, Farmgate, Elenbari, Mohakhali, Moghbazar Road, Bijoy Sarani, Gulshan, Nikunja, and some other places. The vehicular movements were partially halted and remained very slow due to waterlogging and hidden big potshots in different streets.
The traffic police said the heavy rainfall has halted the traffic movement as most of the streets have gone under water. Due to the working day, the sufferings of the people know no bound as the vehicles were packed in the streets and were moving at a snail’s pace due to waterlogging.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has recorded 18 millimetre of monsoon rainfall in Dhaka city on Monday.
