Charge-framing against 46 BNP leaders deferred

A Dhaka court yesterday deferred framing of charges against 46 leaders and activists of BNP-led 20-party alliance, including BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Judge Ataul Haque of the Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal fixed September 24 for framing charges in the case on Thursday after the defense lawyers sought time due to a pending appeal with the apex court over the legality of the case.
On April 29, 2012, a bus was set on fire in front of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) during a shutdown.
In May last year, police submitted the charge sheet of the case against 45 people followed by a supplementary charge sheet which implicated Jamaat-e-Islami student wing Shibir general secretary Abdul Jabbar.
The charge sheet of the case include, senior BNP leaders MK Anwar, retired Brigadier General Hannan Shah, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Mirza Abbas, Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Aman Ullah Aman, Ruhul Kuddus Talukdar Dulu, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Fazlul Haque Milon, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Swechchhasebak Dal President Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Liberal Democratic Party President Dr Oli Ahmed, Jamaat-e-Islami acting chief Mokbul Hossain and BJP President Andalib Rahman Partha.
Of the accused, four including Sadeque Hossain Khoka and Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel sought time.
