The owners and drivers of auto-rickshaw and paddle driven rickshaws gheraoed CCC bhaban and held protest meeting demanding prohibition of the battery -run rickshaws in the city.
The protesters handed over a ultimatum to the City Mayor to implement their demands by June 10 next, otherwise bigger movement will be enforced, sources said. The protest programs organized jointly by Chittagong Auto-rickshaw , tempo Sramik Union, Chittagong Baby Taxi owners association, Chittagong city Rickshaw owners Assocn and City Rickshaw Drivers and owners Sangram Parishad. Among others, President of Autorickshaw, tempo Sramik Union Md. Kamaluddin, General Secretary Md. Harunur Rashid, Baby Taxi Welfare Samity President Md. Hossain, General Secretary MA Faruk, Sidique Miah, , General Secretary of Richshaw Malik Parishad Asif Mahmud, Md. Taslim, Mizanur Rahman Mostafa spoke in the protest rally.
Mentionable that City Corporation building was gheraoed on March 12 earlier and the authority assured them to take necessary steps to prohibit these illegal battery runned rickshaws.
