No scarcity of sacrificial animals: Cattle markets getting momentum in dists

Cattle markets have been getting momentum in different districts with numerous purchasers and thousands of sacrificial animals ahead of forthcoming Eid- ul -Azha and there are huge supply of sacrificial animals in the local markets. Our correspondents and agencies report :
Khulna (South) Correspondent reports: Cattle markets are getting momentum in Khulna city and 9 upazilas of the district with numerous purchasers and thousands of sacrificial animals ahead of forthcoming Eid- ul -Azha, one of the two religious festivals for the Muslims as four days left the festival.
At least 37 cattle markets were set at different parts of nine upazila areas of the district and in the city.
KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khalek inaugurated the cattle market of Khulna city at Zoragate area on Tuesday.
A huge number of sacrificial animals are being brought for sale at different cattle markets in the city and nine upazila areas in the district. The markets include Zoragate cattle market in the city, Shahpur hat in dumuria upazila, Phultala hat Digholia and some other hats in Batiaghata, Terokhada, Koyra, Paikgachha, Dakop and Rupsha upazila areas.
Traders told this correspondent that there are plenty of supplies of cattle to the markets and prices are exorbitant than that of the last year.
Ripon Molla, a cattle trader of Shahpur hat said, There is no shortage of animals, in spite of the fact that no cattle were brought from neighboring country this year. The price of cow is Tk 30,000 to Tk 90,000, sheep or goats are being sold from Tk.7000 to Tk.20,000.
Apart from the local buyers, the wholesale cattle traders are still sending the cattle at the markets in the city and nine upazila areas of the districts.
Meanwhile, currency screening machines were installed at some markets in the city and upazilas of the district as the fake note raketeers are active in the cattle markets.
Md. Kohinuzzaman, assistant commissioner of Khulna District administration said, approval of six temporary hats were also given this year beside the permanent hats.
Sources of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) said that KMP has also taken effective security measures so that the cattle markets are not set up on roads and streets disrupting the vehicular movements.
“In order to ease traffic congestion in and around the cattle markets in the city, we have launched traffic management,” the KMP sources added.
District police have installed temporary security camps at every cattle markets in the upazila areas while patrol teams and plain cloth police have also been deployed in the cattle markets, said MdAnisur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police of Khulna District Special Branch (DSB).
He said adding that three stages security measures were taken with a view to smooth selling and buying of sacrificial animals in the Hats.
Meanwhile, at the conference room of Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dr. Khandakaer Lutful Kabir, an urgent meeting was held ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and National Mourning Day while high officials of different law enforcing agencies including DGFI, NSI, RAB, Police and BGB.
Narsingdi Correspondent reports : A large number of local cattle including bullocks, cows and buffaloes are being taken to different sacrificial markets including the biggest Potia Market at Shibpur Upazila in the district one week ahead of Eid-ul-Azha .
According to sources , a total of 155 cattle head markets are running in the district. The upazila markets are as, sadar-41,Belabo-20, Monohardi 29, Shibpur-15, Polash 12 and Raipura 38.
On the other hand, hast of the cattle heads are being attacked by leg disease (khura) while the customers are not interested to purchase as it is not perfect for sacrific in the Eid-ul-Azha.
Animal Livestock Officer Dr Mohammad Abdus Samadtold this correspondent that above one lakh cows have been supplied on ahead of Eid-ul-Azha from 532 diary farms and 4000 readers in different markets.
The owner of Baki Diary farm Sharifuzzaman of Basail under Narsingdi city said, the number of cow traders is less than previous years as the local traders are interested to purchase a little cows. Even the cows and buffeters of Lustration spices are not selling satisfactorily causing profit of the owners. The importance of the second biggest cows market in the country Potia fall off due to communication problem.
The leasee of Potia Hat Abdul Jalil Member told this correspondent that this hat always sat on Tuesday while it also sat two days including Wednesday too on ahead Eid. Farmer Nazrul Islam of South Mirjanagar village returning have with lies Australian cow as it was raised 2.25 lakh as pries which was sold at tk 2.00 lakh last year.
Another trader Abdul Mannan of village Kumradi saed his bullock profit Tk 10 Thousands as the buyers told Tk 55 thousands.
Trader Khorshed Miah of same area told that he brought three bullocks on upcoming Eid-ul-Azha for sale while one bullock died of leg (khura) disease attacked valued Tk. 56000. The Indian cows are not available at potia market this year. The trader Amjad Hossain said.  
Sylhet Bureau says: Sales of sacrificial animals at the hats and markets of the district has been started in the full swing ahead of holy Eid-ul-Azha.
 Aiming to capture the Eid market, a huge number of sacrificial animals including bulls, goats and sheeps are being stacked to the cattle markets of the district. Those markets are likely to filled with a huge number of customers as soon as the Eid holiday starts at the weekend.
Sylhet District Animal Resources Department sources informed, demand of sacrificial animals of the district is numbering 2,04500 during the current year. There is a total of 5,700 cattle farms in the district. In 2018, a total of 3,96,519 cattle-heads were sacrificed in the district out of which 2,981 were calves, 71,256 bulls, 745 buffaloes, 317,694 goat and 3,843 sheep.
Chunu Miah, a cattle trader at Dakshin Surma hat informed, with the approaching of the Eid day, the hastiness of cattle traders has also been increased. The cattle traders at Bidirpur frontier hat informed, earlier a huge number of cattle heads used to enter the country from India but now there having sufficient local bred and locally reared cattle heads, the demand of Indian cattle heads has been decreased.
A huge number of locally bred cattle heads were seen to bring for sale at Sylhet Kazirbazar hat, Tukerbazar hat, Jalalpur hat, Lalabazar hat, Rakhalganj hat and Haziganj hat of the Sylhet district.
He hoped, this year, there will be no need of smuggled calves and bulls from India during Eid marketing but there is a huge demand for buffaloes in Chattogram and Dhaka, as a result, with a limited number of bulls, a large number of buffaloes are being smuggled from India from various frontier roots of Sylhet border and Chapainawabganj districts.
BSS from Rajshahi reports: Cattle markets here have no scarcity of sacrificial animals with having a plenty supply of local animals including imported ones as only five days have left for Eid-ul-Azha, one of the largest religious festivals of Muslims.
While visiting different cattle markets this correspondent saw buyers’ utmost interest to buy local animals instead of artificially fattened ones for health concerns.
Native animals were seen dominating the cattle markets than imported ones as a large number of animals including buffalo, bull, oxen, goats and sheep have been brought for selling in different markets.
Abdur Rashid, 48, a farmer of Itaghati village under Paba Upazila, said he sold a bull at City hat yesterday at Taka 1.60 lakh. He has also four more bulls for sell before the Eid.
Atiqur Rahman Kalu, Lease Holder of City Hat, said the cattle markets here are witnessing a record supply of sacrificial animals as farmers boosted up local animal production to meet its growing demand during Eid season.
He mentioned that both in rural and urban areas, the poor and marginalized people including women have achieved tremendous successes in animal production getting various assistances from the government and development partners.
Rajshahi City Corporation allowed installation of eight makeshift cattle markets in the city which has already began to draw huge cattle.
Traders said there were plenty of supplies of cattle in the markets and the prices were similar to the previous Eid-ul-Azha.
The price of an ideal sized cow or buffalo starts from Tk 30,000 to 1,80,000 and a sheep or goat can be purchased from Tk 8,000 to 35,000 as per its size, they said.
In addition to the city’s biggest cattle market-City haat, some temporary markets have been set up at Court Bazaar, Shaheb Bazaar Zero point, Railway Station, Court Station, Naodapara Aam Chattar and Kazla.
Meanwhile, currency-screening machines were installed in cattle markets in the city and nine upazilas of the district for resisting the use of fake notes on the occasion of holy Eid.
Humayun Kabir, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP), told journalists that all-out security measures were taken to ensure law and order in and around the cattle markets.
“Besides, we have introduced a special traffic management system to ease traffic congestion around cattle markets in the city,” he added.
Temporary security camps have been set up at every cattle market here, RMP chief said, adding patrol teams and plainclothes police have also been asked to act.
Strict vigilance in cattle markets stressed
Alam Sarowar Tito from Kishoreganj says: The festival of sacrifice Eid-ul-Azha in knocking at the door and sacrificial animals have started arriving in the cattle markets in 13 upazilas and 8 municipality areas of Kishoreganj.
Kishoreganj District Police have taken much needed special security measures to keep the law and order sitution of the cattle markets there.
The decision to adopt strong security measures at a district review meeting of Law and Order in the conference room on Wednesday with District Megistrate Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowhdury in the chair.
Police Super, BGB Sector Commander, RAB- 14, Kishoreganj Camp Commander, Civil Surgeon, Upazila Chairmans, UNOs and Sholakia Eidgha Management Committee were also presnet and addressed the meeting.
The meeting has decided not to allow setting up of makeshift cattle markets except the approved place by then local administration.
Police Super Mashrukur Rahman Khaled said that a three-tier Security arrangement has been taken up in the town and upazila areas ahead of the upcoming the Eid-ul-Azha.
The police and RAB ensure security to all the buyers and sellers at the cattle markets.
To make the security effective the police setup a control room at Sholakia cattle market in the in the town.
Sepcial attention would be given to securing areas in and around the cattle markets where huge money, transations usually widen scope for opportunits criminials.
Foolproof security measures have also been ensured by the disrict police to keep law and order situation under control in and around at all cattle markets.
As part of other security measures, RAB would set up close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, spy sunglass, counterfeit currency detestation machines at the cattle markets.
Police will also patrol at all vulnerable roads and highway points to check extortion, snatching, pick-pocketing, harassment of the cattle traders and buyers,” he added.
