A Dhaka court has reset the deadline for police to submit an investigation report into claims that quota protest leader Muhammad Rashed Khan made derogatory comments on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Facebook.
Police were to submit the report in the ICT Act case on Sunday to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Nabi, said Rashed’s lawyer Joyedur Zahid. As the police failed to submit the investigation report, the magistrate reset the deadline to Sept 11.
Students and job seekers have held protests calling for reforms to the quota system for government jobs for the past several months. Though Hasina has ‘announced’ the abolition of the quota system, the protesters have vowed to continue their demonstrations until the government issues an official notice on the matter.
