Police on Friday arrested a caretaker of a hostel who allegedly squandered valuable meterials along with educational certificates of over one hundred students in the capital failing to get the remainder amount of the house rent from them.
The arrested man has been identified as Khorshed Alam, Caretaker of Alif Hostel in city’s East Rajabazar area.
Kalabagan Police Station Officer in-Charge (OC) Paritosh Kumar said that after arrest, he had been sent to court seeking remand in a case filed by a victim.

Efforts are going on to arrest another accused named Mujibul Haque on the same charge brought by a student, OC added.
OC Paritosh said that around 130 students were staying at the Alif Hostel and other eight students were staying at Ruby building owned by one Mujibul at Kalabagan of the city.
The students went to their villages during general holidays declared by government to tackle spread of corona vacation. When they
came back in the hostel, they saw that their certificates and others valuable things had been thrown in the dustbin.
On Thursday night, victims Sajib Mia and Swan Mia both filed two separate cases against the hostel authorities and the building owner.
Sajib Mia told the media that they rented a flat on the ground floor of a seven-storey building in Kalabagan for Tk 25,000 per month. They have been living there for the last four years.
On March 5, they moved to the village house after paying the rent for that month. After two months, they talked over phone with the house owner Mujibul Haque and sent Tk 15 thousand to him through Bikash.
Victim Sajib said that Mujibul Haque did not pick up the phone after receiving money. He will get three months, rent till June. We paid one month advance when we signed the deal.
After getting the news, “I rushed to the spot on Thursday and found that our goods had been confiscated and loaded on the city corporation’s garbage truck.
