Amid the allegation of keeping her under house arrest, Canadian High Commissioner in Dhaka Heather Cruden met BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday night.
The meeting was held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan residence around 7:30pm.
BNP vice-chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury and BNP chairperson’s adviser Sabihuddin Ahmed were present at the meeting.
However, neither the Canadian envoy nor the BNP leaders talked to media people about the meeting.
Expressing its ‘extreme disappointment’ over Sunday’s election results, Canada on Monday urged all to reach an agreement soon to allow the next elections to be ‘truly participatory’.
Earlier on Monday night, German Ambassador in Dhaka Dr Albrecht Conze met BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia her Gulshan residence. As the government deployed huge law enforcers around Khaleda’s residence since December 24 last and did not allow her to come out of it to join the abortive 18-party’s March to Democracy programme, BNP has been claiming that the government has kept her under house arrest, a claim turned down by the government.
