Farmers of the district are expecting a bumper production of pineapple this year thanks to favourable weather and availability of agri-inputs in time, sources said.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 1,970 hectare of land have been brought under cultivation of the juicy and delicious fruit during the current season in the district.
A farmer can produce 25 tonnes of pineapple on one hectare of land spending Taka 1,47,000 and after deducting his expences earns profit Taka 13,000, said deputy director of DAE, Noresh Chandra Baroi.
The sources said fruits traders from different parts of the country particularly Dhaka, Chittagong and Khulna have thronged this beautiful hilly town to buy tasty and juicy fruits of the district.
